Life at Better

    Own outcomes
    that matter.

We're a founding product and growth team for companies at their most critical stage. You'll work on real problems with real consequences, not internal tools or side projects.

    From the Team

Nikita Lalwani, HR Lead at Better

    Nikita Lalwani

    HR Lead

"The standard here is high, and that's what makes it rewarding. You're expected to figure things out, communicate clearly, and follow through, and nobody's going to chase you."

That level of trust is rare. It pushes you to be better at your work because the accountability is real. When something goes wrong, you own it. When it goes right, you know it was yours.

Rahul Dayma, Digital Marketing Manager at Better

    Rahul Dayma

    Digital Marketing Manager

"You don't wait for permission here. If you see a problem, you're expected to solve it, and you have the room to do it your way."

That autonomy comes with pressure. Your ideas get tested against real business outcomes, not internal approval chains. You learn fast because the feedback loop is immediate.

Mohit Kumar, Senior Product Manager at Better

    Mohit Kumar

    Senior Product Manager

"There's no performance theater. The work either moves the needle for a client or it doesn't. That clarity makes it easier to focus on what actually matters."

You're judged on output and judgment, not hours or visibility. That's uncomfortable at first if you're used to structured environments. But once you adapt, it's hard to imagine going back.

    Working Principles

    How we expect people
    to operate here.

    01

    Speak up early

If you're stuck, made a mistake, or disagree, say it now. Late surprises cost clients money and erode trust. We'd rather hear bad news today than discover it next week.

    02

    Solve it yourself first

Research, try, fail, try again, then ask for help with context. We don't hand-hold. We hire people who can work through ambiguity and come back with answers.

    03

    Care about the craft

Sloppy work creates compounding problems for clients and teammates. Take the extra hour to get it right. The details you skip become someone else's emergency.

    04

    Deliver what you promised

If you commit to a deadline, meet it. If you can't, flag it early with a plan. Reliability is the foundation of every client relationship we maintain.

    05

    Treat work as a craft

This isn't a place to coast. We expect sustained effort and genuine investment in quality. If you're here, bring your full capability, every day, not just during reviews.

    06

    Push through discomfort

You will regularly face problems outside your experience. That's the job. The people who grow fastest here are the ones who stay in the discomfort instead of routing around it.

    07

    Make others better

Give direct, constructive feedback. Acknowledge good work specifically. The team improves when individuals take responsibility for raising the bar around them.

    Work Practices

    Structure for
    accountability.

These practices exist so people can work independently without things falling through the cracks. They're tools for clarity, not convenience.

    Distributed & In-Person

The work determines the mode. Execution and focused building happen distributed. Strategy and architecture decisions happen in shared space when needed.

    4-Hour Overlap Required

You set your own schedule, but you must be available during your team's collaboration window. This ensures decisions don't stall waiting for you.

    Write Everything Down

Async communication only works when it's clear and complete. Document decisions, share context in writing, and don't assume people will ask for what they need.

    Meetings Have a Purpose

Every meeting has an agenda and an expected outcome. Camera on. If a meeting could have been a document, it should have been.

    Time Off Without Approval

Plan a week ahead, update your team, and make sure your commitments are covered. We don't track hours. We track whether you delivered what you said you would.

    Daily Status Updates

Every day starts with your plan and ends with what you delivered. This isn't micromanagement. It's how a distributed team maintains shared awareness and catches problems early.

    Good Example

    Plan:

Add unit tests for AWS ECR cleanup logic (PR #234), ensuring edge cases are handled.

Deploy cleanup code to staging and verify artifact removal (Issue #88).

    Progress (EOD):

All tests passed and cleanup logic merged (PR #234). Verified artifact deletion in staging; no issues found.

    high performance.

    Parental Leave

6 months paid maternity leave, 1 month paid paternity leave. Major life events shouldn't require difficult trade-offs.

    Learning Investment

Paid courses, certifications, and tools, when they connect to the work you're doing. We invest in capability, not credentials.

    Performance & Growth

    Growth comes from
    responsibility, not time.

You grow by taking on harder problems and delivering well, not by waiting. Feedback is direct, frequent, and specific.

    How We Evaluate

    1

    Deliver on commitments

On time. Without reminders. If you're going to miss, flag it before the deadline, not after.

    2

    Deliver accurately

Quality and attention to detail. Sloppy handoffs create rework for clients and teammates.

    3

    Deliver independently

Figure out the path, execute it, and ask for help with context, not instructions.

    Growth Path

    Promotions

Based on impact, not tenure. Evaluated annually. If you consistently raise the bar, take on harder problems, and help others improve, that gets recognized.

    When You're Underperforming

You'll hear about it directly. You'll get specific feedback and a clear window to course-correct. We don't let problems fester. That's worse for everyone.

    1:1 with the Founder

Monthly. Bring problems, feedback, ideas, or concerns. This exists so issues surface before they compound, so use it.
